General Statement of Health and Safety Policy
The MVPA member regards health and safety as a matter of paramount concern on the production, and the promotion of good health and safety practices as a mutual objective for management, employees and the self-employed involved in a production. The ultimate responsibility for aspects of health and safety is governed by relevant legislation and regulations and shall normally rest with the Producer.
It is, therefore, our policy to do all that is reasonably practicable to protect the health and safety of all persons whilst at work, and that of members of the public or contractors who may be affected by our productions.
The MVPA member who is an employer has responsibility, as far as reasonably practicable, to ensure the health and safety of employees and anyone who may be affected by their business activities and shall ensure in particular the following requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 are met:
- The provision and maintenance of plant, equipment and systems of work that are safe and without risks to health.
- Safety and absence of risks to health in connection with the use, handling, storage and transport of articles and substances.
- Provision of instruction, information, training and supervision necessary to ensure the health and safety of all employees.
- Provision and maintenance of a safe place of work and safe access to and progress from that place of work.
- The provision of a working environment that is safe and without risks to health.
- Provision of adequate welfare facilities and arrangements.
- Compliance with all relevant statutory requirements for health, safety and welfare which are published from time to time and that relevant industry codes of practice are followed.
Health and Safety Officer
In accordance with the regulations determined by the Health and Safety at Work Act, each unit should have a safety representative who will be consulted on matters relating to the health and safety and welfare of the unit.

The MVPA member has responsibility to ensure that:
- Managers and self-employed persons are aware of their responsibilities and duties for health and safety and comply with them.
- Employees and freelancers are aware that they are required to work safely and to co-operate with managers in all matters that affect their health and safety at work.
- Any specific rules and regulations applying to a particular location are observed.
- Members who are tenants of studios or shooting in premises belonging to another organisation must whenever they have control of plant, equipment or substances (e.g. chemicals), take all reasonable steps to ensure that nobody is put at risk. Liability under the Occupiers' Liability Act may apply if this is ignored.
- The managers of studios will, as landlords, communicate to tenants and users of the premises all relevant information on health and safety aspects of the premises and facilities provided. Landlords have a duty to monitor as far as reasonably practicable the activities of tenants and other users and advise those affected of unacceptable risks to health and safety.
